Internship Report Examines Urban Project Integration in Sofia trough water management in Netherlands and Bulgaria

Between September 2024 and January 2025, Sofiaplan hosted an international internship focused on improving urban project management at the local level. As part of the internship, an analytical report was developed examining the integration of water management and spatial planning in Sofia Municipality.

The study, conducted by Kalin Uzunov, a student at Breda University of Applied Sciences, combines comparative analysis between Bulgaria and the Netherlands, a local case study, and expert interviews. The findings highlight governance fragmentation and coordination challenges in Sofia, contrasted with the integrated and efficient Dutch model.

The report offers practical recommendations aimed at strengthening project management practices, improving institutional coordination, and supporting more sustainable urban development in Sofia.
